Spice Girls expected to announce reunion Thurs 28th June

http://uk.reuters.com/article/email/idUKL2668517820070627 Wed Jun 27, 2007 1:51PM BST
LONDON (Reuters) - The Spice Girls are expected to announce a reunion tour on Thursday, ending months of speculation about the five-member band that brought "girl power" to the British music scene.
The band sold around 55 million albums and topped charts around the world before Posh, Scary, Sporty, Baby and Ginger decided to go it alone -- with varying degrees of success.
Geri "Ginger Spice" Halliwell left the group in 1998 and the other four have pursued solo careers and jobs outside music since their last album "Forever" in November, 2000.

"The Spice Girls are set to make an official announcement to the world regarding future plans on Thursday 28th June," their management said in a statement last week.
"No further information can be given at this time but given the band's unique history, you can be sure to expect the unexpected," Simon Fuller's 19 Entertainment said.
In a recent radio interview, Melanie Chisholm, known as "Sporty Spice", said she admired boy band Take That, who have enjoyed huge success since reforming, even without the help of former member Robbie Williams.
British media report that the Spice Girls stand to make millions of pounds each from the reunion tour, which is expected to be accompanied by a new album and a television documentary.
WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
Victoria "Posh" Beckham has maintained the highest profile since the band split, helped by her superstar soccer-playing husband David and regular appearances at fashion shows and on tabloid front pages.
The couple are moving to Los Angeles where David has signed to play for L.A. Galaxy, and Victoria appears determined to carve out a career of her own in fashion and television.
Other bandmates have been less fortunate after pursuing singing careers that never matched the success of the group.
Melanie "Scary" Brown largely disappeared from the public eye until a high-profile paternity case involving Hollywood star Eddie Murphy.

Earlier this month a DNA test confirmed Murphy as the father of Brown's newborn baby girl after he declined to publicly acknowledge paternity.
Reaction to news of the reunion has been mixed.
While media interest in reviving the band that once epitomised female empowerment is high, it has also been met with considerable cynicism.
"So why have a reunion?" asked the Daily Mirror tabloid. "Maybe it really is for the fans. Or perhaps it's because Sporty, Scary, Posh, Ginger and Baby need each other more than we need them."

Mel C gives Spice Girls go-ahead

Melanie C embarked on a solo career after the Spice Girls split upSinger Melanie C has given the green light for a reunion of the Spice Girls.
"For the first time ever, there is some truth in the rumours... it could happen," she told BBC London 94.9.
But the singer, also known as Sporty Spice, said it would just be for "a very short space of time... a final goodbye" and a thank you to fans.
It is thought ex-bandmates Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Mel B and Geri Halliwell had already agreed to reunite but Melanie C had resisted until now.
The singer, whose real name is Melanie Chisholm, said she admired Take That, who have enjoyed renewed success since they got back together last year.
But she added, "it would be really dangerous to think you could just follow in their footsteps because I think that's unique, what has happened to Take That".

The Spice Girls were one of the UK's most popular acts
She added that she had always said she didn't want to get the band back together because "it was amazing, it was magical. We could never recreate it".
"But this year people have been talking about it and some of the girls have expressed an interest in doing it."
"I don't want to be the person that stops it happening or stops it being a five-piece," she told the radio station."
Solo careers
It is rumoured the band are planning six live shows around the world with gigs in London, Tokyo and Las Vegas, to support their Greatest Hits album which comes out later this year.
They are likely to begin rehearsing for the shows after Bunton gives birth to her first baby later this summer.
The Spice Girls were one of the most successful pop acts in British history, with a string of number ones starting with 1996's Wannabe.
Geri Halliwell was the first to leave the band in 1998, walking out while the group were on a European tour.
The Spice Girls released another album but finally split in 2000, with the participants all going on to solo careers with varying degrees of success.

Posh Spice and the Skinny Bitch Book

We received a communication recently from a publicity firm saying that Victoria Beckham was recently spotted picking up LA Times bestseller book 'Skinny Bitch'. We've had a look at the book. If you want a book written by two American models who need their mouths (and keyboards) washed out with soap and water then this is the book for you. It's about how to lose weight and be skinny by avoiding nearly all the food you normally eat. So you can be sure I'm not going to read it. But if you want to buy it click here. If you want to see what The Sun newspaper says then click here.
